Ruger PC9 Review

Above is the video review of the Ruger Police Carbine (PC) 9.  With ShotShow 2018 next week and Ruger releasing their new modernized version of the PC9, I want to do a review of old version and talk about some of the improvements made with some of the inherent problem of the old design.

One of the major issues I have dealt with is the top and side screw loosening on the ghost ring aperture (picture below). This can be quite a problem during a match when try to make a precision shot on a tiny piece of steel.

The other issue with the old model of the PC9 is the difficulty of mounting optics since the carbine has the Ruger proprietary design for mounts. This has been corrected in the new version of the PC9 which has 1913 rail to work with most common mounting systems today. One piece that looks similar in the new Ruger carbine is the bolt release and magazine release. However the new magazine well is changeable so the carbine can use current Ruger pistol magazines or changed out to work with Glock mags. One item I would like Ruger to also produce is a magazine well insert which will work with the old P series mags of which thousands are still in  circulation. This would jump the rifle up on my next to buy list.

Hope you enjoy the video and write up!! Thanks for stopping by PHP media.
